Scottish Parliament crossparty group on diabetes comes to Inverness.

The Cross Party Group on Diabetes is exploring new ways of creating engagement with the members and making it of more relevance to MSPs, people with diabetes, health care professionals and those working in the sphere of diabetes. Throughout 2019 the theme running thorough the four meetings this year will be “The Year of Innovation”. Diabetes has long been a field of technological and social innovation, from insulin pumps to the DiRECT trial to help people bring their diabetes into remission to the emotional and psychological developments to help people with the condition. The aim of this year will be to bring some of these strands together through the first three meetings in the year, with a report for the final meeting with actions for the future of diabetes care.

For the first time on our history we are taking the Cross Party Group on Diabetes (CPG) out of the Parliament and will be holding the next meeting in Inverness on the afternoon of Friday, 15th March at 2 – 3:30pm in the Inverness Town House, location details available here.

The first meeting in Inverness will focus on health boards in the North of Scotland; NHS Orkney, NHS Shetland, NHS Highland, NHS Western Isles and NHS Grampian and look at the particular challenges and innovations in diabetes care. Professor Sandra MacRury, University of the Highlands and Islands, will give an overview on local diabetes innovations or current projects. She is currently director of the Highland Clinical Research Facility. She has been working in diabetes for over 25 years. Also presenting we will have a Diabetes Specialist Nurse on the service change in the North of Scotland using digital technology to deliver better equity of care. Following this will be a discussion with the group.

I realise that this is a change from the usual location for the group but I believe that it is a good opportunity to hear the voice of the people from the north of Scotland, I hope you will be able to make it.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely
